Hello everyone!

Originally I began making pens as a justification for my collecting of exotic wood and love of trees and nature in general. A fair amount of my early pens were made from 'trim' from trees at Longwood Gardens where I had been a volunteer and enjoy matching the wood to people whom something such as Bradford Pear or Chestnut may have some type of personal attachment to.

Recently however; I have found myself so jealous of the talent here that I can no longer contain myself to the 'basic' wooden pens any longer and have begun to expand my horizons (and shop:smile:) to include custom Alumilite and Fimo clay blanks, etc...

I just wanted to thank EVERYONE for their inspiration! :smile-big:

Glad to have you aboard. I'm in Newark, just around the corner. I too have an affinity for exotic woods. I used to sell on this forum, until arthritis took me out, but after having my wrist operated on, I hope to get back to turning, though not buying and selling exotic woods. I have what I called my wood museum, that might interest you. It is a not-for-sale stack of some of the most interesting stuff I found in my 5 years of selling. Some call it eye porn, but I prefer eye-candy. I haven't been around for years, but hope to spend more time on-forum. I'm not much of a techie, but I love to look at pics of all kinds of wood turnings and flatwork. So, what is your favorite exotic? What is your favorite turning wood? Mine are a tie for favorite =Brazilian tulip wood and lignum vitae and for turning is maple/cherry. I do love some good super curly koa though.
