Hello everyone, I am Tim. Like a lot of you, I took a class at Woodcraft and that was all it took to hook me. After several months of trying to justify buying a lathe to my wife, she finally got tired of listening to me and relented. I think she now regrets that because I spend all my free time in the garage turning pens. I donate the proceeds from my pen sales to our American Cancer Society Relay for Life team. This year I donated $1000. I am amazed at the pens that I have seen on this website. I hope to get that good someday.

Welcome to the site Tim. Nice to see that your using your hobby to support such a great cause!

Welcome, Tim. I stumbled onto this site a while back, and it was the best thing that could have happened to me since I got into this craft. I am living proof that if you stick by this organization, you will learn a lot and improve a lot. The amount of knowledge contained in this website and its members is overwhelming. To top it off, they are always so willing to help out a fellow member. Enjoy your membership.

Welcome! I got hooked in the exact same way; I took a class at Woodcraft many years ago. I packed everything away when my children were born. After 17 years, I rediscovered my Jet mini lathe in the back of the garage a month ago. Its been spinning ever since.

Welcome Tim from Sunny (at least today!) Harrisburg PA.

Our local Woodturners club meets at the Woodcraft on Tuesday Oct 11th starting at 7:00pm. You can show up earlier though, and browse thru the candy store.
This month our activity is a hand-on turning session. You MUST be an AAW member to actually do turning, but if not, you can watch.

Welcome Tim, from far west Kentucky, to the addiction, sometimes referred to as the vortex. Be sure to give the library a good bit of time. The link is at the top of the page. You will find an article called Library Index. This covers tutorials on about anything pen making you can think of. You will also notice that there are articles listed by year. Much good info there as well. When these fail to answer your questions, by all means post it here. I have never seen one go unanswered very long. You might also want to give this thread a good look. It has some very good info for the beginning pen turner; http://content.penturners.org/library/general_reference/Getting_started_in_pen_turning.pdf. Grab some wood, make some shavings and have fun all the while being safe.
Charles
