Hey I have been a member for about 4 months now and I have seen many questions about:
How much do I charge for a Pen?
How many pens can you make in an hour?
What is the mark up on your pens?
How did you do that?

But I have never seen anyone ask how many beers does it take to make a pen? Did I join the wrong forum? Of course not too many as we are working with power tools.

I cut blanks have a beer
I glue blanks have a beer
take a break and have a beer
Next day (because two beer limit when working with power tools)
Put pen on lathe have a beer
Turn Pen have a beer
Next day (because two beer limit when working with power tools)
Sand pen have a beer
Finish pen have a beer
Assemble pen have 3 beers.

So that is 10 beers to make a pen safely!

So I am the odd man out here?

If you give up beer (while working) and switch to coffee, your speed improves (caffeine) and the number of breaks is limited to the capacity of your urinal.

Try it, your pens might get better too!!!

So that brings to mind the question.Do you add the cost of a twelve pack to the cost of your pen?Just curious, cause if you do then I might need to start doing that.:bananen_smilies046:

Ok , I'm with the coffee crowd on this one . My shop RUNS on free flowing coffee , the stronger the better . Thanks for the idea Ronald , I need to add in a coffee surcharge into my prices :hypnotized::coffee::hypnotized:

Ed you are right again (scary ain't it)

I do however have an idea for you which may require the help of your better half! I know you have a real issue with time.

Before the first pot of coffee is done brewing install a catheter. This will increase your pen output by eliminating the output trips!:coffee::coffee::coffee:

NOS is the garbage, MONSTER is where it's at!!!!

(then it's a nice cold Newcastle Brown Ale when I'm done!)

Cant stand coffee but a nice cold beer does have its advantages on a hot day out on my porch. I do use it more often when I go out to cut wood with my bow saw.....usualy forget to bring the wood home but it dries a little where it lays.
Maybe I should include it in the price, they can be part of the consumables.

Whatever happened to good ol' water?? I drink more of that than anything else. Caffine free tea is next then milk. If it is a really warm day, Gatorade cools the buds.

IF I want something with a bit of alcohol in it, forget the beer. Give me a shot of Tequilla !!!

I drink Soda, now it takes real skill to turn with a 64oz cup in one hand. I've never actually kept track but I figure a gal and a half of soda per pen if I'm moving fast.

I'm just screwed I guess, I don't drink beer or coffee.

I feel your pain Johnnie. Never been much of an alcohol drinker and coffee just never did it for me either.

I have recently been trying to switch over from soda to sun tea. First I went to Pepsi 1. The wife prefers I drink it over Coke zero. Coke zero has aspritain in it. Now that I have made the switch to low calorie soda, I'm transitioning to tea. Eventually it will be caffeine free tea. Boy age sucks.:frown:
But you Daniel, can put away the soda. Must be a younger man.
Wow, I just looked at your profile. Your a year younger than me. I guess it just takes longer for it to catch some of us huh?

I usually go between Coffee, Water or an Energy drink depending on the time of day. I have a hard time functioning without caffine but for health reasons, been trying to cut out pop (or soda or whatever ya call it where you hail from). I have never developed a taste for alcohol but I love a good cigar every now and then.

Make that Captain Morgan Private Reserve and Pepsi and I'm in...Only use coke to clean the brass tubes. However about the only thing I use in my shop after cracking a cold one is a cleaning rag... And Bruce...Just watch out for the turtle ditches!

Hmmmm... If you guys start adding the cost of a 12-pack into the cost of your pens, then us "pile o' Baptists" on this forum are gonna clean your clocks on price/material costs! (so long as we don't figure in the KFC or Bojangle's Fried Chicken material costs)

So Matt, Do you use a CA/FCO finish on your pens? Is yes then you should include the cost of the KFC/Bojangles. Just to keep it a fair market.

Fried Chicken Oil

Man, I'd LOVE a Bojangles biscuit right now! We moved out of Charlotte back in '92 and haven't had a good biscuit since.

I usually wait till I finish the pen and then start drinking, that way if i made an ugly pen it looks much better after consuming a six-pack. One of my favorite Homer Simpson quotes is "Beer is the cause of and solution to all of life's problems"
