Has anyone used SketchUp for pen design?

While I like SketchUp a lot for designing furniture, boxes, cabinets, jigs, etc. , I have not found much of an application for turning projects. But, then I'm not one of the brightest crayons in the box.

It would be nice to do a rectangular design and be able to see a cylindrical projection. I have tried and not been very successful. Has anyone else tried and succeeded?

A few years ago, I designed a subwoofer enclosure for a servo amp/driver. I needed to make a lot of internal bracing, clearance, etc. I really dove into sketch-up. It's a great tool, that only takes a little bot of learning.
