I am right there with you, Edgar. My wife is going through the very same things and the preliminary diagnosis is similar to your wife's. My son is available to help out with cooking (former chef) and other small things around the house but I also pitch in with the cooking and clean ups. She goes with me for shopping trips to keep her moving and motivated. She also has short-term memory issues (can't remember things that happened a few weeks ago to a few days ago). She has balance issues possibly related to some TIAs and a mini-stroke and is going to physical therapy to see if that will help. Thanks to all for the birthday wishes. I really appreciate it. I haven't been on the forum very much lately - some of you may know that my wife is having some cognitive issues for the last couple of years. Her problem is mostly short term memory recall. MRI shows that she's had some small strokes that probably account for that. Blood work shows that she has the best variant of the APOE gene, so her chances of getting Alzheimer's are very low & the Neurologist doesn't seem to be concerned about dementia at this point. They have her on Aricept to help with concentration & a baby aspirin to try to prevent a major stroke or heart attack. They want to do a PET scan to get further brain analysis before making a final diagnosis though. Her confusion is worst when she's tired, so we try to avoid that as much as possible - not easy. I do all the shopping & most of the house work & meal preps to help her out as much as possible. We have a pretty good routine for now, but I don't have much time or enthusiasm for hobbies right now. I did do some cleanup in my shop today & that felt good.
Thanks, John. Best wishes to you & your wife as well. Feel free to shoot me a message if you ever want to compare notes.I am right there with you, Edgar.
