I agree with Bob. Not worth the investment. Their magazine is okay for tips. The couple of FREE things I did get were junk. They still call occasionally to see if I want to upgrade my membership to lifetime and I have to explain to them that I haven't even been a member for about three years.
 
I was a member over a year. Best thing I got to test was a utility knife (still have it). Best value was a good price on a quality hat. Other than that all I got was more grip-it sheets, padded sandpaper, and drill bit sizes guides than either me or my kids will ever need.

If you already get a few different home improvement and woodworking magazines you won't find anything amazing in their magazine either. Classic example of getting what you pay for. Oh you should be getting a Gardening Club of America offer from them soom as well.
 
LOL! Seems like we've all enjoyed the experience! I wonder how many "Life" members there really are. The problem for me is that everytime I join something new I'm very enthusiastic and tend to go overboard! That's when I'm most susceptible to those "wonderful" deals! I've learned to wait a bit before jumping all the way in. Uh, most of the time....... Usually....... Well, sometimes I remember to think it over before I jump... all the way...in.......usually.
 
I am a Lifetime member and have enjoyed their mag. Have tested their products 3 times, the 1st was a picture hanger (nice but too expensive); wnd was a mobile unit (very nice) then this week recieved 18" piece of duct tape (way too expensive)
 
I was a member for a couple years. I never received ANY products to test. i was starting to think that it was because i was Canadian?
the magazine wasnt bad. but, i get other handyman mags that are better.
 
I agree with most here. I was a member for about a year, but never learned a thing from it. It seems to be geared to the novice homeowner, with minimal experience in household repair and renewal.
 
Had the same experience as most above stated.
I joined for the two years to see what it was like. Learned a number of things the hard way. Thats ok, will _NOT_ renew membership. After numerous months went by and I had received NOTHING to test as stated in their membership deal, I finally found a phone number and called. It was explained to me that even though I had paid my dues, that I had never "requested" to be put on their list of testers. Seems I had missed that somewhere in the fine print of that package of papers they had sent me. They did however, after about 6-8 months into the membership finally put me on the 'bottom' of their testers list. And yes, I did finally receive something from them to test. A little piece of bent metal that was to hang on the side of a paint can.

Maybe if you pay them the several hundred dollars you 'might' get better things from their test program.
But then again, why not just spend the money and buy what you know works.

Just my 'I feel like I was burnt and still not over it' attitude opinion.
 
I got the membership app. in the mail not too long ago. Figured that anything that seemed too good to be true probably wasn't true. Appears from reading most of your impressions I was smart to just toss it in the trash like I did.[}:)]
 
Yes, you have to request to be a tester. When I joined i was and prob still am a novice homeonwner/ DIY. There are several WW mags much better. But it is done, paid for years ago and so I don't worry about it. I have noticed that WOOD has another turning project in this last issue. Is it possible that the WW world is waking up to the fact that there are those who turn?
 
My husband has been a lifetime member for many, many years and has tested 5 or 6 products. None of the tests were of much value but he enjoys the magazine and passes it down to our sons who also enjoy it. Best thing he tested was a large can of stuff that he painted on our porch steps to prevent you from slipping on them. That was probably 8 or 9 years ago and it is still working great. Every time you test something you have to go back and reapply to test something else.
