Hair for money? | newton pens

I'm going to let a student cut/color my hair to help raise money for art class.

:bulgy-eyes:

What am I thinking???

And I'm going to wear it for a week.

Sounds like a fun fund raiser.

Didn't see a buy tickets option on your blog.

Think it would look good wit a reverse Mohawk. one side dyed Carolina Blue, with a Duke blue on the other side.
With a Ohio State Red for the beard.

Dude you look alot like my freind Guido...........

He lost his car for several months, misplaced it and was very thankful for there help when the impound lot called. Spent 3 months cataloging his belongings instead of looking for work when he got an eviction notice. "You have a tinny place how much could you have Guido?" "Everything" "Everything?" "Yep everything I was given or that was important too me in my life" I look at a bucket full of bits of plastic....."Even this broken bike reflector?" "Of course you gave me that on august 2nd 1979"..........................................."OK Guido I'll let you get back to your work."

Sorry......my mind wanders a bit sometimes. Great idea for a fund raiser! It's a crime that you have to raise funds for arts education......but I really like the way your doing it! Very fun.

Tracy has donated to locks of love a couple of times, great orgainization. But kids need the arts as part of there education!

You could cast up the cuttings and make a pen out of it but I've always heard it's impossible to polish a hairball.

Good lord Shawn!! Has your nose been tooooooo close to all those CA finishes you have been applying to your pens?

Hahahahahahahaha.....It's an AWESOME IDEA!!! PICTURES !!!! LOTS and LOTS of PICTURES!

My hair isn't long enough for locks of love - but that's a great cause. Several friends of mine have donated.

There will be lots of pictures - I promise. :)

Glad Guido got his car back.

So I finally got to a comfortable spot in my classes where I could start giving away those fountain pens I bought this summer. I took the first 10 minutes or so of class to have everybody circle up and I explained how to fill and use the pens, showed them how to fill them up, and let them ink up their new pens. They'll be able to ink up whenever they need and I won't have to do it for them. :) Yay! I also gave them a sample bottle of ink to take home so they could try other colors. I have a good gallon and a half of blue and black to give out, but not a lot of other colors.
So how's the raffle ticket sale going? The one where I'm selling raffle tickets for a chance to cut and color my hair? Yeah, that one…
Are the kids interested in buying tickets for the chance to cut and color my hair HOWEVER they want? Short answer yes. Long answer — I need to make posters and hang them up around campus to remind the kids I'm doing this! :) A couple students bought tickets, but that's been it. Two very nice people have bought tickets for me to give out – $50 and $20 worth. Very cool! So if a student buys one they get another for free, and I'll also get names from teachers to randomly give out to students until I run out of extra tickets. :D

Great idea! My wife is a teacher and she's often spending out of pocket to get stuff into the classroom.

How about an IAP (or on your blog) raffle for a pen? Maybe a minimum $10 donation and your name gets entered?

Tell me where to send the money and I'd be in, it's a great cause.

Hi there, if you are looking for fundraiser ideas, I used to be a high school band director. We once wrote to several NFL football players and got autograph pictures and one signed jersey (jay novacek) we raffled that stuff off and made about $700. Pure profit.

I had the kids walk 5 miles and get sponsors. $1500 in a very small town. We used to have a spaghetti supper (we'd play dance tunes) free will offering almost always brought in $800 with donated food and workers. Pure profit.

Once we had a sell and egg buy and egg gig. We'd go door to door and ask if they would like to buy and egg to help the band boosters. The next door we'd ask if we could have an egg to sell...haha worked okay.

Those are GREAT ideas!

It took me a while to figure all this out. Go to your pages and all.
You are doing the coolest thing ever.
Great, great stuff.
Kids need what you are doing.

Thanks!
I had words with another teacher today - apparently some of the 7th graders were taking ink out in class. Oh brother.
