We bought our 2 story house last Oct..Had some very old carpet in our living room, dining room and a downstairs bedroom. We had laminate flooring put in those as soon as we closed. Upstairs rooms were fine but we still had this eyesore of a staircase. I finally broke down and started to redo it this past Saturday. I basically finished it today. Still a couple minor cosmetics to do. I tore the old carpet off. Sanded and wood filled voids in the old pine. Added some 1x2's on the edge of the steps for a lip. Took some of the laminate we had extra and put it on the risers. The sides had sheetrock showing so I did a 1x2 border on the wall edge and put a stringer over those. Painted the steps to match our dining room and a little crown moulding going up the sides for looks. Nice difference from the old and really brightened up the staircase more. Here it is!

New look is wonderful. I turned some balasters for my In-Law's stairwell 2 years ago on a 125 year old house. They came out 'acceptable', which I was ecstatic over. Very nice work Bobby. Yea, working on my knees... ain't the best also.

I think I remember you posting those, if my memory serves me right. I'm glad I didn't have to do nothing with these. All the wood in this house seems to be oak and in great shape for a 40 yr old house.

Oh ya, the wife ordered some nice brown and tan carpet treads to go on the steps. They'll spruce the steps up some and good for traction. Lol
