I am making alot of cast resin blanks at the minute... wouldnt it be nice if there was a mold that had all sizes in one... ie the 7mm to the 10 mm..

to fit all the major pen sizes....

well thats as far as I got.. hence why its in the casual conversation section..

and what I mean is the type exotic blanks sell that you can do your clear cast with your pen tube already in situ...

hmmmmm now I need a beer! ok Want..

What else do you want. The Resin Saver mold is the cats meow. Hope it is not to hard to just pick the size mold that has the kit discription labeled on the side. It would probably be easier if you have someone else cast them for you.:biggrin: Now I need a beer:biggrin:

cheeky git.... I love the resin saver mold.. but wouldnt it be nice to have all sizes on one mold...

like having a beer holder on your chair.. or a heater in your car seats.... you know just that one "special" mold.... that you can make what ever your doing in one go... because for me I would make a mold of one size.... then another in another size.. but only one at a time.. whilst I am assembling the next so to speak..

anyway thats just me... but I thought I would share..

I still don't get your point. If you did something like the resin saver molds with stepped plug ends it wouldn't be a resin saver any more. The other great feature about the resin saver molds is you can do more than one blank at a time. Your mold would have to be quite large in size to occomindate all the kit sizes. I would think

I use a tube and corks and can insert any tube I want into it. You can say that is a universal mold for sure.

Casting is hard enough. Don't over think it.

ok I think we might be talking cross purposes..

I would like a mold that could do Any size pen blank.. but the resin saver mold..
the resin saver molds on offer are GREAT... but you have to buy them for a specific blank or tube size... thats my impression from exotics website.

ie a sadona pen and a slimline pen or a 50cal bmg pen blank..

I would like to be able to have them all or the sizes to do them all one next to the other...instead of having 4 blanks of the same sort of pen.. this is hard to describe.. I might make a diagram and show you.. but I would be after the resin saver but with all differant stoppers for all differant tubes on the one mold... but you would only be able to cast one at a time sadly...

Slim, cigar, sierra, baron, jr ...that's 5 of the more popular kits only. That's 9 tubes. How you going to make that fit into a pressure pot laying down in a resin saver type mold, let alone the fact that there is way more kits than just those and everyone has their own preferences? It's just not a feasible idea. I make my own molds. If you want a certain mold that suits you, then make up a master out of something like corian and get some silicone and pour a mold..see just how much work this is. The cheapest most feasable way of doing things is to buy the existing resin saver molds. There is no rule you have to pour every slot at once when casting. You can just make one blank at a time if you want.

In theory, having a step plug in a mold is a great idea. Problem is you have so many different sizes in diameter, and some of them are so close to the next and then there is different lengths to consider, it's just not going to work that way, it's impossible.

I know what you are saying and would make for a large mold that Would not sell well. Maybe you can make your own. There are tutorials in the library of making molds. I just think you are overthing it abit but hey this is how ideas are born. Go for it.

I wasnt bothered about it selling... I was thinking at the time that I wanted one that did it all... LOL

I see where your comming from now... as for the production of them.. and your right.. or wrong who knows... they may or may not sell.... but for me that would be awesome to have a one stop shop so to speak ... it wouldnt be that big.. as your only making one blank per pen.. or for the slimline for example.. you have the two marked.. the sadona the one... the 50cal the one.. etc etc.. and all in one mold side by side...

that is just convienant.. and lazy.. suits me to a T.. LOL

but it was only a thought.... that was all.. or a dream.

see is that really a dream or a nighmere? think about it... nag nag nag nag nag..

oh well you can see I have been married too long!!! all fun to start but I keep thinking I could have completed a jail sentance much shorter for less grief!!!! LOL

I wonder, are you talking about an adjustable mold, where it would fit any and all different kits simply by sliding the ends in and out, pulling the sides tighter or pushing them looser? Hey, now that is an idea. Now if we can find a genumus inventor to build some of them in rosin saver types. There you go, all the hard work is already done inventors, just put it all together in real life! Nutin to it.

now that is a idea.. didnt think of that.... mine was to have one big mold with every size lined up next to each other so you can do what ever blank your working on there and then... not in any quanty but one...

ie

slimline///sadona////50cal////large cannon... etc etc... if you know what I mean... but I do like your idea better!!!!!
