HELLO,
Being a military brat in the 70's brought me to Geleen, Holland and my first introduction to the use of a fountain pen at a British Annex Elementary school located in Brunsum. The teacher had given us a list of supplies to bring the next day to class, so we went to the local p.x. and picked up my supplies, next day she informed us to take out our pens, i pulled out my trusty bic pen and to her dismay, and look on her face, she sternly let me have it in front of the class. to boot i was the only American kid and on top of it a mexican, and from Texas, i was a hit a lunch time with american food. anyway, she loaned me a fountain pen, and told me to learn to write with it or fail her class.. she did not want to see another ballpoint pen ever. after that, i caught the pen bug, and up until 2 months ago, i was finally able to purchase my own lathe and supplies from Penn State Industries, believe me. When i would go into any, and every store, the pen isle got my full attention. I loved getting pens from pharmacy reps. Glad to be here..

Welcome Roy,

Glad to have you here. Join in the fun.

Below are links to two threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.

The second link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. I am sure you know many but this will help with those you don't.
