I want to say that Fort Myers Florida has some great IAP members in the area.

Every year I travel to visit my mother in Ft Myers. This year I contacted Chuck (delcamino) about my travel down. He setup a South-West Florida get together! It was awesome! Nearly 9 hours of showing off pens and making a DRO setup for my Lathe!

Thanks Mike (Bluwolf) for taking the time to hook me up! Your manufacturing skills will make my kitless adventure a bit easier!
Thanks Mike (mredburn) for your metal lathe tips and your ergonomic recommendations on the DRO!
Thanks Chuck (dalecamino) for setting up the meeting and bringing your mini-metal lathe so we could get Metal Lathe 101 training done!
Thanks Marshall (Mapster) for showing up and sharing your ideas and pens! I am happy to see kids your age doing this!

Just had to let everyone know that there are some really really nice people on this forum and I wanted to thank them for what they did yesterday for me! I got to see a grunch of gorgeous pens also!

Mike if you want to post the pictures of the DRO, that is fine. I didn't take any and it is packed up.

Chuck is a really good guy. I'm planning on making a trip down that way sometime soon. Will just have to make sure someone can cover my job at work. Glad you enjoyed yourself as well. I'm looking forward to seeing some of your pens with the new found knowledge on kitless designs!!

I really need to get back to Florida! I haven't been home in forever...

Sounds like you had a great time Fred

I am down here for one more week. Then I have go back to work and earn a living rather than relaxing in Sunny Florida!:frown:

Fred,

I'm glad you had a good time. I know all the other guys enjoyed meeting with you too. If anyone cares here are the pix of the DRO. I've done a couple on metal lathes but this was a first on a wood lathe.

There are a couple ways to look at yesterdays meeting.

"The cups half full"
It was great to meet Fred and put a face and voice to another member. We got to talk shop and learn that no matter what level of pen making we are at. We all have the "Im almost embarrased to show them pens" from our beginings. We all had our "Sunday go to Meeting" best pens as well as our pens that show the journey of how we got there.

"The cups half empty"

Fred and I blathered, Chuck attended with his eyes closed, Mike ignored us and made a bracket. Marshall showed up late and I went home early.

Regardless, of your outlook I had good time of it and was sory I had to leave early. Fred If you have an hour or two to kill your welcome to drop in and see my cave. ITs not as neat and tidy as Mikes. Probably polar opposites would best describe it.

It was great to meet Fred. It worked out pretty well for ME. Fred carried the lathe for me, and brought a casting mold with him. I needed that. Thanks Fred! Having been up 'til 4:00 A.M. the night before, I had to have a power nap. But, it's always cool to watch Mike do his magic with that mill.

Ernie, Tim and Jonathon, you guys have to get down this way. We'll have to think up another project for Mike to fabricate.

Well, if I ever make it back home to Florida I'll have to stop by and see the crew as well. Grew up in Palm Beach, but my father is still in Hudson, FL so that's probably where I would visit.

I also had a great time. Always great meeting new people, especially when they are as nice as Fred! Thanks for that interesting take on the day Mike, very interesting perspective . Anyone and everyone is more than welcome to come check out our chapter, we always enjoy seeing what other people are up to!

Thanks again for coming down Fred, and thanks to the rest of you for the meeting... As usual!

Fred,
Sorry I missed you this time around. Life seems to be kicking my butt at the moment, but it's probably all my fault nontheless. Mike, I think you are getting pretty good with all these DRO modifications...Hmmmmmmm
