All right I get the emails from groupon, and the one today is for $199 LASIK surgery, a $2150 procedure. I will be honest for that I don't think I would feel comfortable getting that discount.

And given that they keep 1/2, so the eye doc is only getting $100... Most want upsells or repeat business. What can you upsell on this? And at most they'd come back once for the other eye. Think someone didn't think this promotion through very well.

Uh guys, you need to read the fine print...

"Treatment on both eyes is required, and this Groupon puts you closer to covering the full treatment ($5,200 for both eyes)."

I think that is with the pen light laser pointers( Lazer pointers for meetings). But if you want them to use the real lazer it cost more.

All just marketing....

So - Your total cost is $5200 - $2000 + $200 = $3400 (ignoring the glasses part and just focusing on the lasik).

Around here, I hear of it on the radio for around $1500-$1700 per eye. Puts it at about the same price.

I agree, its a marketing tool/a sales pitch. You,re gonna end up paying normal area price anyway.

I would, and do, shy away from Dr's who use such questionable tactics.

About 12 years ago I decided to have Lasik surgery at age 70. During the initial interview they told me the price and I mentioned a discount that I had heard about. The person doing the interview said, "I'll have to check with my manager about that." That made me feel like I was in a used car dealership but they honored the discount and I had the Lasik surgery and have been very happy with the results.

I had it done about 17 years ago, about 2 years ago I had to go back wearing glasses. I figured I got my money's worth out of it. Since I am now married with kids, I don't have to worry about trying to attract others now, so will not really worry about it.

Did your eyes get worse recently?

I always wear contacts, but due to a wrong fitted contact that wore my cornea, I was told I likely will never be able to wear lenses again (on eye steroids now) and hoping to at least get it feeling like there is not a hair in there sometime. But I HATE wearing glasses. Was thinking about getting the lasik done on at least the eye with the worn cornea if possible.. and wear a contact in the other eye.....
