In an earlier thread I said I found the Cross Brand refill purchased on a card at Target won't fit into the top of the Groove pen. I had to sand it down before it would fit into the top. I wonder if I could ream out the connector so it accepts the name brand refill? I'd had to give as a gift or sell one to someone only for them to find the refill they bought won't work.

I would tend to believe that the refill is made correctly as long as it is a genuine Cross refill. I would be suspect of the kit not being correct instead. Have you experienced this issue with more than one Groove kit? If so, I would contact the supplier and find out if they have had any complaints about the refill not fitting. I'm assuming you made the kit correct and did not have any obstructions in the opening of the top section.

I had an issue with the Duraclick in that they supplier provides an adapter to lengthen the refill which I found to be problematic in that it could be lost if the owner needed to change refills. I altered the click mechanism so that the owner did not need to fuss with the provided adapter. Other than that I have not found fit issues with refills on any other pen kits that I have made.

Was it the diameter of the refill or the length? If the diameter, then I'd agree with Mortalis (above). If the length, separate issue(s). I've had issues with the Groove, too. Sometimes caused by milling/sanding the blank too short, sometimes the Cross refill seems too long. Some component sets seem quite sensitive to tube length, some not so much. Part of the game.

Maybe the confusion is in the assembly instructions. I believe there is a missing step, see below.

Press front of Mechanism (brass end) into open of lower barrel to the crimp line.
• Thread Refill into back of mechanism and test refill extension by twisting mechanism. Mechanism can be pressed in further if a longer extension is desired. Be very careful not to press mechanism in too far.

I added this step >>>Remove the refill once the extension has been properly established.
• Slide Centerband over back of Mechanism

Oh, OK!
After looking at the parts diagram for the click version I am assuming you cannot fit the head of the refill through the Barrel Nut that is pressed into the top tube.
Below is a posted response on PSI to a review that was not favorable for the kit:

If you are having an issue with a kit including missing parts or functional issues, contact us by phone, chat, or through our contact page. We can replace parts and provide technical support for kits that are not functioning properly.

Thank you, I did call the other day but the tech department wasn't open yet. We're dealing with health issues so I can't take the time to go through the various hoops etc. I'll warn people I give/sell them to. Maybe it's just me.
