Grizzly G0514X2B 19" Bandsaw - Bearing Adjustment

I am in the process of setting up my new grizzly bandsaw and can't seem to figure out how to remove the guide post (red piece of sheet metal) so I can adjust the support and blade guide bearings. The manual shows how to adjust the bearings with a feeler gauge and I am sure I could accomplish that - but the guide post is in the way! There are a couple of screws that hold it on and when I remove the screws, the post is then moveable - but it is wedged into an area where I cannot get a feeler gauge in to reach the bearings. Is there some trick to remove the post?

I don't use a feeler gauge on mine. For the side bearings, I bring in one side to just touch the blade, put a piece of paper on the other side and bring the bearing up snug against the paper ( about .004). For the back bearings, with the blade tracking correctly, bring it in until there is no daylight between bearing and blade then back off until a thin line of daylight shows. This clearance is not critical, just don't the blade to ride the bearing when not cutting, but support with a small amount of blade movement.

BTW, I cut a LOT of green wood, bowl blanks, etc. the original bearings began to seize up pretty quickly, couple replaced under warranty, rest after. The replacement bearings don't seem to have the same problem, never had to replace one of them. I suspect the original bearings had leaky seals and cutting wet wood caused them to rust.

I've had mine about 4 yrs. or so, it's a good workhorse. I've cut green bowl blanks up to nearly 12 in thick and resawn 12 tall stuff.

Just eyeball the clearance, you want the bearings as close as you can get but not touching when the saw is on but not cutting. The two top bearings should be just behind the gullets so they don't touch the teeth.
