I need to get a new grinder. I've got a six inch vs grinder but it leaves too much of a hollow grind on my tools. I don't live close to a store that sells slow speed 8 inch grinders. I'm going to have to order one online, so, which grinder is the best for the least money. I really want a Tormek but that's not in the cards yet. I see that WC and PSI are close to the same price.
Advice please?

I have the WC slow speed that is sometimes on sale for $79. I don't know what the shipping would be on it, but it's a great grinder. It already has the perfect grit wheels on it, which is a plus. You could spend that much just on wheels sometimes :)

I'm happy with my 8 inch 2 speed Delta grinder. I believe WC has them on sale occassionally. You might also check out Lowes and HD on line and Amazon.

I quit using my grinders, and use a 1" x 31" Delta belt sander instead. Blue belts (don't remember what material) work best, but black 120 grit belts are what I usually use and they do ok. Shape with 100 or 120 grit, touch up the edge with 240 or 400 grit. Seems like Lee Valley sells a leather belt for stropping. Hone on a diamond plate between trips to the sander.

I also use the WC 8" slow speed. I am currently still using the original wheels and so far they work fine. I did find with the original wheels, though, is they need to be dressed before you use them. I didn't know this till I bought a diamond dresser and wow what a diffrence.

I have the WC SS grinder with the Wolverine system and love it. I also have the Tormek and I am slowly trying to switch all my sharpening to it.

yea, I wish there was a Lowe's close by. I'm not sure if there's even one in the state. Maybe in Billings. I've looked at Home Depot and at least the one here (or more correctly 100 miles from here) doesn't have them.
For those who have the WC grinder, has anyone replaced the factory wheels with Norton or Oneway wheels? (2 of either of those wheels would be more than the price of the grinder.) I'm just wondering if the premium wheels are worth it (too).
I already have the wolverine setup...just don't like the 6 inch thing. 8 would be better I think.

I'm still on my original wheels - probably will be for a few years until they wear down. I spend some time once in awhile turning that wheel with very dull tools, but it's a slow process. :D :D[:p][:p][}:)][}:)][}:)]

I picked up my Delta 2 speed 8 inch from Amazon - a good price and free shipping. It replaced my 6 inch grinder that I was using before. I also use a Woverine Jig and Alan Lacer's honing steel.

Best,

I took the plunge and got the tormek and thanks to Jim15 I got the gouge jig and some extras for a great price. I'm really not trying to gloat. But now I think my 8" slow speed grinder and all the wolverine jigs are just going to collect dust and take up space. Would $125 plus shipping for the slow speed grinder, Wolverine system with the multigrind, Skew attachment be something you would be interested in? I don't know if you are looking for all the stuff with your grinder.

Chris,

If mark won't take it...I am interested. Of course I will yield to him first.

Chris, that's a great deal. However, I already have the Wolverine system. Probably better to sell it to someone who could use the whole thing. I really appreciate the offer though.
Dario?

Chris, put me on the list if still available, I'll take the whole kit and paypal ya right away if in time! Let me know.
