Hi everyone, My name is Matt and I'm in Westbank BC. I am an avid photographer and woodworker and enjoy just about anything in the great outdoors (fishing , hunting, hiking, camping.... etc)

I've been out of the game for a while as a move left me with no "shop space"

I just picked up a lathe at a great price and dug out my pen turning box and am going to start this fun hobby again (i'm sure the ink is dried up in the pen kits in there).

I'm glad I found you all as I will be asking a few questions along the way.

I'll start with an easy one...

My old lathe had a taper inside the spindle where the mandrel fit... my new (to me) lathe has threads on the inside and outside of the spindle.... I've been looking for a threaded mandrel but cant find one... any suggestions?

No Name on the Lathe... but I took a couple of pics...

This is the spindle with threads on the inside...

Internal threads in use....

And the Lathe....

Cheers!

I don't know about the lathe (except it looks pretty stout), but welcome to the IAP madness!

Hey Matt,

Ditto, I have no idea what kind of machine that is, but welcome from Victoria from someone born and raised in the Okanagan.

I vote for the collet chuck but the three jaw you have there would work as well. buggest difference would be knuckle busting potential. you also need a 60 degree live center at the tail stock. hopefully that end is tapered. Don't worry about your great deal getting more expensive. You are going to buy those things sooner or later anyway. Have fun making sawdust.
