I found this the other day for my almost 3 year old grandson. His Dad works for a co. that makes JD parts. I think the third and fourth words he spoke were John Deere. I had to rebuild one wheel and repaint it. I wonder how many miles it took to were the tread off one tire. It's and Ertyl 520.

That's awesome! I want one ..... for my son that is! He is almost 14 months and has a smaller platic ride on John Deere but that would be great for when he is older!

Great piece. I used to restore pedal cars/trikes and such 15 years ago. My grandson had/still has a Murray firetruck and a trike. My 2 grand daughters each had a restored Colson chain trike.

Keep this forever, believe me your grandson will talk about this tractor for many years to come. One day when he's 9 or 10 or 15, or whatever age he will make some comment about the tractor. You will smile as I have many times.

Unfortunately the girls didn't care much about the chain trikes. they wanted 2 wheels from the beginning. I ended up buying them Schwinns, before Schwinn went out of business.

Sorry to go on, but you brought up old memories for me.

The munchkin got to ride the tractor this afternoon. He found out that if he keeps his feet off the pedals, he can go about 150 yards down the drive, bounce across the cattle guard, turn a little and go another 50 yards. After the first hour I started using the mower to pull it back. Best afternoon in a long time.

I made a custom frame for two 8x10's for my mom a few years back. Left pic was me at about 4 pulling my little brother (two) in the little trailer behind one of those. They kept it for many years before giving it to some good friends for their kids. The friends moved away after the kids got older and lost touch for many more years. My mom ran across her friend on facebook a few years ago and asked what ever happened to that tractor. She was told that it probably got left behind the barn on their old farm when they moved. Dad drove out there and asked the current residents (who didn't use the barn and had no idea what was behind it) Sure enough, there it was with a fair size sapling growing up through the pedals. The wagon was a casualty, but still stocked by the local JD dealer, who did the complete restore and repaint on the wagon with all OEM parts and paint.

The second pic in the frame is my oldest (4 at the time) pulling his little brother (2) behind the same tractor, across the same spot in the driveway.

Funny how life works that way from time to time.

Sounds like he figured it out! Nicely done. That tractor will be a memory maker for sure.

Now that he has you trained, he may never want to pedal it back.

The local truck and tractor pull always has a pedal tractor event at the July 4 pull. I'm sure we'll be there. If you've never seen one of these, it's always a good time. They hook a long piece of sheet metal to the tractor and have people line up beside the track about 4 feet apart. As the "sled" pedals by the people step on, until the tractor quits pulling. The kids love putting on a show just like the big tractors. For older kids they have several different classes where they get very competitive, like changing gearing, adding front weights, and the Grandads trying to get all skinny people line up to step on the sled.
