I am looking for some one in the Inverness, Fl area that could either teach me how to sharpen my gouges and chisel or that would sharpen them for me at a minimal charge.

You might check the Local Chapters part of the Forum for the next meeting nearest you.

Do you have a grinder? Good wheels (not the gray ones that usually come with them) and a way to dress them would be helpfull as well.

When turning some of the harder materials it can be necessary to re-sharpen tools several times before completing the turning, therefore you should learn to do it yourself.
Making some kind of a jig to hold the gouge at the correct angle would be a good place to start. Have a look here ... Wood turning lathe tips:techniques: woodturning instruction
