So I haven't been posting much since my turnings have slowed way down. I have been having major pain in my right shoulder since Feb and just got a diagnosis two days ago. It makes it difficult for me to do too much out in the shop these days, or if I do, I pay for it later. I have chronic arthritis as it showed up on some x-rays. I see the doctor Tuesday for treatment options. I have some stuff to take for now, which isn't doing much for me. I have tried some OTC stuff, but again nothing helping. Just thought I would give you all an update as to why I have been MIA lately. I hope everyone has a good holiday weekend.

Good to hear from you Todd, Hope you get that thing under control. I had the same with my hip I opted for replacement.....havent been sorry for a sec!!!!

Todd. I feel your pain Literally. PT helps. Vicoden/Lortabs are useless, I've been taking 3-5 10/500 mg a day for the past year and a half. Surgery apparently isn't all that good either, Acupuncture helps some. at least I can still turn handles.

Shoulder injury sucks...worst re-hab ever (and it still flares up from time to time.)

Cortisone shots were my best friend for several years, have you tried that?

Todd: I have moderate to severe arthritis in my hands...not good for a woodturner and it was extremely painful. My doctor had me try a prescription topical ointment that is an anti-inflammatory. It's called Voltaren gel and it is a wonderful thing for me. Of course the skin on the hands is thin and the effects on them may be different than on the shoulder where the joint is deep under muscle tissue. Ask for a sample and give it a try. I had my left knee replaced 3 1/2 years ago due to bone on bone arthritis, and I also have the arthritic in my right knee, but not as bad as the left was. I occasionally use the Voltaren gel on the right knee when it acts up and it also helps there. I take Tylenol Arthritis along with the Voltaren gel and it seems to make a difference. Good luck to you on this.---Rich

I understand how you feel! I saw the Ortho last week after an MRI, and he tells me that my arthritis has caused a bone spur that is tearing my rotator cuff. Oy! I'm scheduled for surgery on it for the 13th. I hope you find some workable options!

Scott.

Yeah, my dad mentioned those also to me last night. I haven't tried anything like that yet since I just found out why I have been in so much pain. At 37 you wouldn't expect it, but I know a high percentage of people under 65 get arthritis. I just need to muddle through this holiday weekend see the doc on Tuesday and see what he says. In the meantime, I see some Mike's Hard Lemonade in my future lol.

Thanks for the input to everyone. Its nice to have more information on something I didn't think I would be dealing with so soon.

That really sucks Todd. I don't know what shoulder pain is like, but my wife has those similar issues..heck I just brought her back from a third shoulder surgery last week, so I do know how it is to live with a person that has shoulder pain...that's not as bad as having it, but not fun either!

Thanks Jeff! Yeah I am sure my wife gets tired of hearing me moan/groan at times. lol. You would think sitting against the couch would feel good instead of causing pain to radiate around my side. I mean is it too much to ask to be able to watch TV sitting up? LOL Hope your wife has some relief soon Jeff.

Good to hear from you Todd. I had both my shoulders done. Wish I hadn't. Doesn't help all that much.

Tod, sorry to hear that you have that problem. To all of you guys that suffer form pain, you need to take note as when and what you eat that can worsen the pain. There many food that are inflammatory in nature and contrary to them there are some foods that are anti inflammatory like turmeric, garlic and many to name here. Todd, cortisone shots would cause weight gain and that would not help since additional weight at any joints would cause extra pain. If you recall I fell for that none sense and I put on 35 Lbs. that I am having heck of hard time to lose it now. Secondly, you need to make sure that you get two or three other consultations before you give in for any major treatments. sometimes having your deltoids tight will cause a sever pain in deep in the shoulder joint and the cause of that is your posture that you drop your shoulders forward at sitting position which if I am not wrong you do that because your an IT tech. sitting in a position and droping your shoulders forward will do that to you. Also make sure that you have them do a blood test to make sure that arthritis will show. If you want cal me and I will have you talk to a friend of mine that does Egoscue training that has helped with many patients including me. Most of your pain is from postural misalignment just like mine. Hopefully this helps.
