Griffin Exotic Wood is another great place buy wood. He shows you photos of the exact pieces of wood you are going to receive, and has very reasonable prices and a large selection. Jim S

They're a little pricey.... Spalted Maple at nearly $25 per board foot is way beyond my budget...

Yes, $25 does sound high when I read that, but ....

... just for reference, would I be right in saying that I could get about 25+ pen blanks out of a board foot ?

(It's a long time since I did board foot calculations !)

I have a local supplier that I just spent $267 with this week... one of the pieces was a piece of spalted maple, beautiful board at 6" wide x 1" thick (full 1 inch) by 60" long... 2.5 board fee that I paid $4.35 per BF -- total of $10.44 --- at 1x1x5.25 would equal about 68 pen blanks .... it's going into some cutting boards I'll be working on and/or maybe a pepper mill glue up.

Chuck:

I went to your etsy site and you are a busy person. You do a super job on the things you make. I know a couple of guys who are into pens big time and its nothing to spend up to $10.00 on one blank on certain woods. It breaks down a little better doing a board foot.
