Hi all,

Well I have finally taken a step over to the DARK SIDE!!!!! I have turned my first Acrylic Pen!!![}:)]

The smell is terrible, the ribbons that come off during turning are a nuisance,,,,,,,,, but other than that I kind of like it![:p]:D

This is 3 firsts for me, my first Acrylic/first Cigar and first European.

Like the cigar best, it is my favourite at the moment.

Cool pens, Kenny. Congrats on your advancement to making 'proper' pens.[:D][}:)] Acrylic, that is!!!! Anyone who knows the difference between a nib and a finial also knows that acrylic rules!!![:o)]

Now I'll just duck the Light Sabres and hide in the hills for a bit[:D]

UGGGHHHHH you are correct. As much as I like the finished product I had to limit my acrylic turning to a minimum as it would really aggervate my sinus' But still Like the finised product.

Hi All,

Thanks for the feedback.[:)]

I am certainly going to turn more man made blanks in the future, but will still be 98% wood! Old Habits!!!!!!!![;)]

My son thinks the acrylic is really cool! But being 9yrs old, his buying power is limited![}:)] But then again he has always been a big Star Wars fan.[:D]

I can live with the smell, and having to stop the drill press and lathe to clear away the long ribbons that clog up the machines, but my first love will still be wood.

I suppose it's true....."You cant teach an old dog....."![}:)]

Welcome over but its not that dark.

If the mess at the dril press is a pain, try mounting one of the Lok-Line pick-up to the base and vacuum all the debris as you turn. It sure does help keep that area of the shop a lot cleaner ... and quicker!

Thanks again everyone.[:D]

Mark - I expect that Buffalo Horn is very much like Antler or bone? I used to carve both, and it reminds me too much of the dentist to be used too frequently![:o)]
That said, if you have some blanks spare, I could do a trade on some Burr Elm![}:)][;)]

Penmonkey - I am certainly with you as regards to the wood/acrylic argument. To me there is no substitute for the variety and wide selections of woods available![}:)][:p]

But I certainly believe there is a place for both.[:D]
