Well actually going under the controlling arm of Mako. Started my bacteria cleansing this evening, getting ready for my knee replacement Wednesday. A little nervous but have been told it will be worth it. My knee has been bothering me quite a bit the last few months and I think a few weeks of recovery will outweigh the pain I've been dealing with. Wish me luck!!

I have several family members who have undergone knee replacement surgery in just the last 2 years. All have reported that it was definitely worth it. The residual pain 1 week after the surgery was less than they were experiencing before the surgery. In order for it to really be successful, you need to do all of the Physical therapy, how and when they tell you to.

Good luck! You should be feeling much better for Christmas.

That's comforting. They are trying to get me a RomTech physical therapy machine so I can do PT at home. They say recovery with it is 2-3× faster.

Wish you well. My brother just had his done about 10 days ago. He first had his other knee done about 10 years ago. That still bothers him. This one was less pain and they have new methods where they do not cut any tendons or ligaments and the knee material is suppose to be better too. So far he is doing great. Walking on it with cane and PT is going well. He said this was much easier. The only thing was he developed an alergy to the tape they use to cover the wound so he had to take antibiotics for that but even that is about gone.

I am a candidate for both knees but keep putting off. Someday.

Was his recent one done with the Mako John? I seen a video with a guy walking fairly decent without a cane in 3 days. It was still a little painful and swollen but he was getting pretty good mobility.

I am guessing that robotics. No he had it done with the same surgeon who did his first one. The doctor said this one was a mess and should have been alot sooner but all went well. He walks with the cane for stability but can actually walk without it. He was walking the very next day. Now it is a matter of building strength and getting the flexibility back into it. He is past 90 degree bending from what he said. He has been told he is progressing real fast. I am sure you will do well. Today they are far more advanced from even 10 years ago. Good luck.

The people I know that had knee surgery are doing excellent.

Had both replaced. Couple of days of pain afterwards but ok with prescription you will probably get. Be sure you do the PT! It may be a little sore in the begging but you do not want to skip it. If you don't keep your knee moving it will form scar tissue and will not bend very well. I wish I had it done 40 years ago. Never had a problem with either of them since I had them done in 2012.
Good luck!

Many have told me to do what the physical "terrorist" says plus keep doing them. Heard of one who went to have the one rep;aced a second time. Doctor wouldn't do it as the guy didn't do the exercises.
Thanks to all. Didn't mean to hijack the original post but seems like there is a common thread among the members.

Had my left knee replace Dec. 22. Robotic assisted. Take the pain med, will help with therapy. Right knee will need replaced within a couple years depending on how long I tolerate the discomfort. Speedy recovery to both of you!

They called me. Goin in at 6am. They are sending me a RomTech machine. All home PT. :)

Same with the pain meds it is easy to get hooked. These are opium derivatives after all. Ask the Physical Therapist if doing more than the minimum at home will speed your recovery. AND ALWAYS DO THE EXERCISES, NO MATTER HOW MUCH IT HURTS! My brother in law said it was "too painful" to do the exercises (didn't do them) so now he is in a wheelchair.

We could have a symposium of knee surgery patients. Three days would be good.
Therapist said the doctor used a robotic system. Showed the place where the "base" was set into a tiny incision. Also, the robotic systems heal faster.

just remember , if flying , you want to pick the nice looking lady customers official. Preferably one with small hands ( just in case ) and carry your own rubber gloves 😳

You know you're going to get searched for carrying metal internally , only the degree will vary 🤣🤣

He he when my pelvis was rearranged by a car I acquired a great deal of titanium to hold it together, and I always set the alarms off at JFK when passing through. Then the detectors got better and no alarms.
