Gisi Mandrel set up?

I was looking at the preview to the Gisi segmenting video. At about the 30 second mark it shows his mandrel set up. Is that a mandrel being held in a collet chuck with a mandrel saver on the other end. That seems like a good way to support the mandrel to avoid bending.

We are using TBC now but that looked like a heavy duty set-up.

Yes, you are correct. A coincidence, last evening I re-watched his full video which I have for his "Pool Cue" pens. Same general process.

He builds his blanks with whatever segmenting he is working with, he carefully marks the ends for the center of the patterns, with steb centers he turns the blank round, inserts in a Nova Pen Jaws (I prefer the Beall Big Collet Chuck), then drills on the lathe, glues in the tube, and proceeds to the collet/mandrel/mandrell saver which you saw.

It's exactly what I have. Love this setup for mandrel turning, as it's solid and I haven't had a bend/ out of round in a long time.
