Too big of a step from bottom barrel to CB for my taste, I would get rid of the CB altogether and turn the purpleheart to the same diameter as the cartridge!

I think you are right about the CB. I actually thought about doing that. But since this was my first cartridge pen and the kit came with the band I figured I'd stick to the plan. I bought 4 kits so I will be trying different things.
