I am amazed at the amount of crazy hacks and phishing emails and calls I am getting these days. What is even more surprising is how real they often look or sound - it's getting a lot harder to figure out who is trying to scam you vs things you really need to know.

I also have had the 2-step security where they text you a number to your ph. Not sure how much this helps. I have it on a few of my other accounts. Seems if PayPal can text you, then if someone hacks your account, they would also have to ghost your phone to be able to get the security number.

A couple things here. First PayPal has not sent out any warnings or alerts of this happening. Second reading this article says that the passwords did not come from PayPal the site. They picked them off some other way. Third how do we know this warning is legit and not a site that collects passwords. Click on the site and now malware is infected your site. This has happened before also. Just do not know what is real any more.

Another reason why I Never click links. If I need to verify anything, I go directly to the site.

Yea I did a scan on this link too. Also checked PayPal site and nothing said. I will not shut down PayPal like Don did. I use PayPal all the time. Just have to watch activity. You can change password today and tomorrow same thing. Anything electronic is suspect to be hacked. Nature of the beast.

Use common sense and update your password. Just an FYI, you have do that directly on PayPal's website. Use a random password generator and for the options, pick capital letters, lower case letters, numbers and symbols, then ensure the length is 16+characters. I like 1password.com it is very simple to use.

Use a uniquely generated password for each website.

Yep. LastPass with yubikeys here. And a cryptic Gmail account for the "master" email address which is used nowhere else in the world.
