Does this require a pressure pot? I've tried casting stuff with small fibres before and they seem to attract air bubbles.

Yep, some birds are definitely missing some pretty ornamentation! 
I also believe a pictorial "How to do it" is definitely in need of production.

I'm not much into feather blanks, but those look beautiful and definitely agree with going with a cartridge casing. Would make a terrific gift. Good job!
