Our own Shawn Newton (Watch_art) has taken it upon himself to further the education of fountain pen use by teaching his students how to use and enjoy fountain pens. He has started a program called "Custom Fountain Pens for Kids" read about it here:
Help Fuel A New Generation's Interest In Fountain Pens | FPGeeks
and look at the video.
One way we can help him is with blanks, most of us have more blanks than we can use so I had the idea to collect a matched set of acrylic blanks from the members of the IAP and contacted Shawn for his permission. Shawn asked me if I would collect them so if anyone wants to help just PM me and I'll send my address to you. I've started this in the fountain pen forum FP GEEKS! - International Association of Penturners but moved it here as more members come to casual conversation.

i make mostly fountain pens now and my kids love them. it even helps to get them to do there homework sometimes. although i can't help with this project just wanted to say i like the idea. especially in the computer age we live in,

So far the responce has been great, I've had some donated kits one has donated money for me to supply blanks and a number of you that have donated blanks.
I and I'm sure Shawn thank each one......Yes this is another shameless bump:redface:

I don't have any matching blanks, so was going to just order some and have them sent directly to your address, but as you mention a donation, can I do that too?
Well done to both Roy and Shawn!!

Are you guys looking for just matching blanks, components, and nibs or kits and completed pens as well? I think this is a great idea, just a little fuzzy on some of the details. Does one get sold to fund the project and the other donated to a student? Is there a time limit on this and if so when?

Ok, I done my tiny little bit.
Great project Shawn, I wish you every success. Thanks Roy for jumping into the hot seat:biggrin:

I'll be sending Roy my box of blanks & other supplies tomorrow. Have fun with it Shawn! I think you're doing a wonderful thing and lets ALL take notice and try to do the same in our own areas.

Wow!!! just received two donations of money to one from Skippy and one from Darrell Eisner, thanks to both these will buy more blanks or ????? Shawn and I and especially the kids thank you.

All packed up and ready to go! Shawn, I included an early fountain pen of mine. I'm sure you'll find it a good home. It only takes cartridges so I included a 12pack of private reserve. There's alot of other goodies, but that's 1 part I wanted to let you know about ahead of time!

You guys are amazing.

I had no idea this kickstarter thing would take off like it has. It's only been a few days and I'm 290% funded. I would have never dreamed that it would have done so well. And you guys are contributing in a huge way, too.

Thanks.

Do you need wood blanks?

Got a large flat rate box, about 140 peices I'll donate. It's all Eastern Red Cedar 3/4sq+ by 5-1/4"

Let me know.
Scott

You guys are so great, it looks like we might need more large flat rate boxes and it makes me proud to be a member here..Hope Shawn is so busy making pens for not only his students but any kid in his school who wants one, keep them coming.

I'm not sure what I've got . . . the blanks would be wood 3/4"x5" - if you want them, pm me. there'll be Canarywood, bloodwood, eastern red cedar, maple. I've given a few to homeschooled kids in my neighborhood. I think its a really great idea. The kids here are truly excited to learn how to write - with a fountain pen and/or dip pen.

Just a quick update, the boxes are starting to roll in and you guys are amazing, one box was so full of blanks, ink, kits, sandpaper, tap and die, and other stuff that it filled up a medium flat rate box almost by itself and the blanks were just fantastic. The kids are going to have some great looking pens...

Happy to help Roy! I'm sure Shawn will find good homes for everything
