Wow -- I went to post today's work and got a message saying that I was not permitted to post on "Show Off Your Pens -- New Thread." Did I offend someone?

I have had the same message for a while and that is why I have not posted my pith pen. Jeff has been working on it.

I've posted umpteen times that this message is due to our pretty strict malware filters. There is no reason to think it means you're being prevented from posting in any particular forum.

It is usually due to special characters in your thread title or somewhere in the post. Parentheses and quotation marks are the most often the case. Hackers use these characters as part of SQL injection attacks and so we filter them at the server. Occasionally, someone gets snagged in the filter while trying to do something perfectly legitimate. The bad guys on the other hand try sometimes hundreds of times a day to poison us, and they get stopped. I am sorry you are having trouble, but it's a price I'm willing to pay.

So, here's what you can do; make sure that there are no unusual strings of characters in your post or post title. 20 sets of parentheses might look cool, but it's not going to make it past the filter.

If your post contains just normal punctuation and no oddball strings of special characters and you still can't post, contact me and we'll figure it out.

Thanks
