Well, it kinda looks like flutes...3D EPR bug with a little rose engine lathe embellishment at the base:

Looks fluted from here as well. Another fine piece of the Ol rose engine. 
If any Zonies are interested John Magill will demo his Rose engine lathe 4/19/08 from 9-12
and then from 1-3 how to construct a rose engine lathe. Wish I could be there.
