Flush sanding a pen tube after CA glue finish and sanding

After you apply CA Glue to a pen, you get a residue on the ends of the pen. If you don't remove that residue, the pen will not assemble correctly.

Maybe a stupid question but how do you spray the bare ends without damaging the finished barrel?
Or, do you buff the barrel after spraying and it takes care of it?

I put a piece of 150 or 220 sandpaper on the workbench, set it flat and lightly sand by rotating the blank. Wipe with a piece of towel.
I had a problem with overhang of CA glue and applying too much pressure with the pen press.
