I made a short video for fitting a clip too, but I still have to upload that.

Okay - so this is the cap in a collet. The end of the cap that's thicker is all going to be removed.
The other end of the cap is where the pen goes. :)

With this tool....

Turn baby turn! Disco inferno!

Drill with a K and tap with 5/16/20 or 28... something like that.
Actually - I'm going to replace this with a finer M8x.75 tap and die combo... the 5/16 is too coarse.

Ooh pretty. Nice and flat. Ready for the finial?

No. THe threaded part doesn't go all the way in - so I need to cut away from the hole a bit...

See?

Yay! Now to turn the finial to fit the cap. This is the easiest way I've found to do this. For me. I only work from the top and cut down into the cap. I don't push away from the collet ever - I broke one cap like that and won't do it again.

Turned down and ready for sanding...

A bit of polish for a shine...

And I cut down a bit using the bottom corner of my pen pro tool (love that thing!) creating a recess for the clip ring to fit into. Then I take it all off the lathe...

And this is where the video will fill in. Basically you just file a tiny gap in the little wall there so the clip can fit into it.

Hope this helps somebody. :)
