First try at dying while stabalizing

Here's my first ones that I've dyed. These are double dyed, green and blue. I'm quite happy how they turned out. The one on the right is before. After stabilizing, the blanks are more than double in weight.

Spalted maple. I don't know why I am finding stabalizing enjoyable, but I do. Just another aspect of penmaking I guess.

No I soaked one end in green for about three hours baked it and then did the blue under vacuum.

Those look good Ken.
Seems there is always another avenue to explore with pen turning.
Now that you have your wife hooked, it will be interesting to see the items you post.
Nice to make some nice blanks for your wife to use on her projects.

Wow, those are excellent! That blue is almost iridescent.

And yes, dying would, you know...end in...death. Dyeing would be the process of imparting dye into another material.
