Decided to give it a shot. Used basic cork pieces. Mounted in Jacobs chuck with oak dowels glued in.

Total investment. $4.50

Eventually I'll made some nicer ones with the chrome stoppers but it was good cheap fun to try. I can see myself turning these as little token gifts as needed.

Very nice shapes, nice display also.
If you decide to do others, the chrome styles will pit with the use of most wines and such. Ruth Niles stoppers are stainless steel and much better IMO. Keep up the great work.

Very nice, I found I like the silicone style and it seems to be a favorite among the people I have made some for. They like how easy it is to clean and store them. The longer ones they didn't like due to it seems to big and too much of the stem goes into the bottle. I guess everyone has their opinion. But below is what I use.

I keep my wine stoppers shorter on top as many people do not have the height in their fridge for taller ones.
You turned so very nice stoppers.

I will probably try those as well. What I like about those and the corks is that they ate inexpensive to make.

I'm sure the silicone will last longer than the cork. I just kinda like the natural look and feel of the cork.

This, Tom, is a good word! I just let someone pick one out and the two she liked best didn't fit on the bottle in the fridge.

Do you have a recommended height or just sort of wing it?

Your stoppers look great. From my experience though the height should not be an issue, as all the stoppers that I have sold to people do not refrigerate there wine, they say it is a sin to refrigerate wine when it's supposed to be drank at room temp, but that is just my experience.

Yes - my understanding is that white wine is supposed to be refrigerated. Red wine is not supposed to be refrigerated.

However, people 'sin' all the time. ;-)
