First try at basic segmenting

So here's my first shot at segmenting. Very basic. No angled cuts. From clip to band is; purple heart, African blackwood, blood wood, purple heart. From band to nib is; bocote, Quina, bocote. The pen is a satin nicklel slimline with a longer upper tube. I finished the wood with WTF and sanded back with 1200 to give it a satin finish to match the hardware.

You should choose better combination of woods to show off the segments. Lighter colors with darker colors. If you use all dark colored woods the effect is minimized. Just my thoughts.

I agree. I just wanted to try it, so I used my cut offs. I'm already itching to do another with some angled cuts and thought out material selection.

:bananen_smilies104: As long as you are going to add wood, get rid of the center band. This will give you a broader design window, and not limit the size of your pen in the middle. Look up articles in the library on how to do this, and what you can do with the clip. Jim S
