first pen

AS soon as i get my lathe back together im going to start on my first pen made with a madrel i bought. havent read the direction yet.

i have made a couple pins but the where made from scratch

any hints I need to know before i start to destroy wood

Yeah. Remember WHY you destroyed the wood and don't do it again. Seriously, just stay relaxed with it and watch some videos on Youtube about how to turn a pen before you get into it. You'll be hooked before you know it.

What's wrong with destroying wood? Some of the most exciting times I have had making pens is when I destroy wood. Keeps the heart going.

p.s. destroying acrylic is fun too, and less expensive than nice burl blank.

Try blowing up pine 2 X 4. When you can turn that round and slick, you can turn anything. Besides, pine is much cheaper than beautiful burl or PR.
