I'm having a difficult time getting the top and bottom together. It doesn't go in all the way. I'm not familiar how exactly the pencil functions but I know it's binding somewhere. Can someone familiar with the kit help me out? Thanks so much.
 
Just looking at your picture one /possibility/ is that the top blank is too short and the end of the pencil mechanism is catching on the lip of the finial. Could you have taken off a touch too much when squaring up the blank?
 
Thank you for you're response. I don't think so because when I put a dowel in the top and mark where it exits, then put the cap up against that there's plenty of room. I can force it all the way in but it just seems too tight and is really hard to get apart again.

If the cap is fitting too tight there might be CA or epoxy inside of the tube
