I haven't done a lot in the shop over most of the past year due to a big home Reno.

I received this Platte knife kit (made by Jantz) from William Wood-Write, last May, as part of a Facebook giveaway. It took me a long time to get it made, as I wanted to use a scales I poured myself. It was intended as a Christmas present for my brother in law, and I got it done just in time.

It's Box Elder Burl with black alumilite Slow Clear mixed with a little silver powder. Getting the Corby bolts lined up was a little tricker than I thought. I sanded to 1200, then finished with Carnuba Wax. Not perfect, but for a first I am happy and he loved it.

I wanted to try this, because I am thinking about making and offering letter openers. The same company makes letter opener blade blanks as well, and I just found out that WWW is offering them as well. Not even the new year and I'm spending money. Geeesh

As always, comments welcome.
