I decided to try making a segmented pen for my dad for Christmas, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out! It's a Gatsby in Lilac, Brass and Brazilian rosewood (perfect for a guitar player). The bands were a little crooked, but for a first try it wasn't too bad (although using Brazilian rosewood on an experimental pen probably wasn't the smartest idea!)

Very nice and he will appreciate it. Good contrasts in wood and good segmenting for a first time. What's next on the list?
I won't say anything about the bands, I promise. ;)

Well done! You did many things right. The upper and lower (shorter sections; I call them end caps...) look well matched in dimensions, and the brass rings look to have a nice tight fit. You will see what you wish to improve, and that is expected, but this has much to be proud of.

Thanks for sharing.

Well done, beautiful pen. Maybe I am missing something, but I don't see anything wrong with the brass spacers.
