Super glue will darken just about any wood.

Usually this is a desirable thing as it also highlights the contrasting grain in wood.
When I want the wood to stay its true color and not darken (such as with Holly) I will seal it with a water based sanding sealer called Endro before continuing on with the CA finish.

It is important to seal the grain in Holly as any dark material from sanding will get lodged in the grain will look terrible. It is very hard to get it out once it happens but Mr Clean Magic Eraser pads work well for that.

Holly is one of my favorites. I just turn, sand and go straight to a CA finish. It will darken it a "little eeny teeny weensy bit".......not enough to worry about.:biggrin:
