finishing wenge

are there any secrets to finishing this wood? I am having a heck of a time getting the scratches out perfectly

I have found that I have to polish wenge finer before applying a finish if I want it to be scratch free.

I've always done it just normally, spinning lathe sand for a bit, then lengthwise sanding with the grain with the lathe off. I usually do 400/800/1200 before starting the CA Finish
