Last Friday I was working on Wenge Sierra, and trying my new sending pads (similar to micromesh but muuuuch cheaper). Wenge is difficult wood to work with, because of very dramatic difference in hardness between light and dark layers of wood, and this time it hit me... But in very pleasent way! Working with pads along the grain lathe stopped, when I've got to 1500 (240-320-400 paper and 500-800-1000-1500 pads) I found out that wood is very structured with soft layers almost brushed-out. And it's just feels very "woody"
So, question: how to finish this wood to maintain structure? CA just fills in and makes no difference. Main problem with Wenge is that "light" layers should be soaked with thin CA as they are too damn soft. If not that, I'll probably try few coats of oil.
