Finish for stabilized pens?

Depends on the wood and how it was stabilized. I've left some with a mico-mesh polish and some I used CA on. I do think that the added CA finish on top is more durable since the underlying wood is more solid.
 
I always put at least CA/BLO on the stabilized pens that I do, if not solid CA. You get a glossier finish regardless of what type of blank you use, and it helps protect the blank. No resin is anywhere near as hard as CA. :)
 
Thanks, the blank is buckeye burl. I just got some Enduro, did three coats of the sanding sealer this evening, and it perked it up quite a bit. Will finish with the top coat tomorrow, and predict it will be well worth the effort.

Most of the stabilized blanks I have used, when purchased from eBay, required standard wood finish (for me EEE and Enduro). I'm sure if you send them to a good stabilization shop, they might end up with enough plastic that they could start to behave like an acrylic blank. However, most of the small source do-it-in-your-garage sellers don't achieve this level of saturation. The wood is stabilized but by no mean plastified.
 
This buckeye burl blank was from Arizona Silhouette. I micro meshed it to 12,000, and it looked nice, but didn't sparkle. Maybe I should have tried buffing it, but went ahead with Enduro. I'll be putting on the topcoats in a few minutes.

I don't use a lot of stabilized wood, but most of what I use has come from Arizona Silhouette. I simply sand through Micro-mesh 12000, then apply two coats of sanding sealer. A few seconds buffing with Tripoli and then White Diamond, followed by TSW and the blanks GLEAM. No problems with wear in 3+ years.
