I wonder about the durability issue - is it real or imagined?

I am asking here specifically about gun metal. Has anyone had durability issues with GM? I don't recall ever having read any here, but my memory ain't what it was 10 years ago so I could have just forgotten.

Please don't tell me about issues with other finishes right now, just Gun Metal

I ask because GM is, in my opinion, as good or maybe even better looking than Black Ti but a whole lot less expensive.

Well this thread got sidetracked and the discussion reverted to a question I thought was different and had been discussed at length in a prior thread.

Thanks to those who answered my question this time.

Leroy, my carry pen is a gunmetal slim and I have been carrying it in my purse for three and a half years without it showing any wear.

Really?? What else do you carry in your purse, cotton ball?!?!? My wife can wear the plating off a pen in just a few weeks in her purse. Although I'll have to check & see what platings are in there right now. She usually has 2 or 3 pens with her. Of course, the worst is 24k. I told her it wouldn't hold up, but she still carried it. I just looked at a sierra she used to carry that's gunmetal & gold. Both the gunmetal & gold show wear.

Bob, I wonder what your wife is rattling around with her pens. If it is as rough as my shirt pocket. Thanks for all the contributions you and all others make here to help us do better.

Change, keys (you've seen a woman's key chain right?), phones (2), billfold, checkbook, at least 2 pens besides the ones I made, name badge. That's about all I can think of at the moment, but there are at least 2 inside zippers. All things that will rub & scrape against each other.

The kits are designed to be used in a "human" environment ... I don't consider most women's purses to be human environment, with the possible exception of my wife's (only because she usually leaves hers in the car or has it riding in the shopping cart eliminating most of the hazardous conditions.

I saw the results of various models of pens and finishes carried around in the bottom of a purse not long ago. It looked like satin, 24k gold, and Gunmetal on most of them. And from what I could tell (and I'm sure scratches contrasting with color played a roll in my observation) the Gunmetal finished pens were by far the worst looking of the bunch.

Thanks Bob. Sounds about like the same roughness level as my shirt pocket. Just my stuff is smaller. Love pockets and use them well. My real problem is dropping. Cringe every time. Often no damage.

I carry it in a zippered compartment on the front of my purse. It also holds several flash drives, a nail clipper, a nail file, lipstick, and my phone.

After three years in the purse it still looks good enough that I showed it to an expensive gallery in Talequepaque Galleries in Sedona, AZ and she commissioned more pens from it.

I did check what pens my wife carries, and she has a gold euro with black tru-stone. That one actually looks pretty good. I think because sierras have so much more surface area that's plated, they might have a tendancy to show more wear.

Sharon, I hope you know I was only kidding about what you keep in your purse. I do think purses in general are a rather rough environment for pens, but they do seem to hold up pretty good in there.

Oh you should have seen what I USED to carry around in my purse before my Dr put a limit on what I could carry because of my bad shoulders. Now I carry a fanny pack, because he won't let me carry anything else except a small clutch with no handle. I've discovered I really didn't need all that stuff after all.

I think it's fun watching my bride looking for something in her purse and the stuff that comes out of it whilst she hunts.
