Many of you know that my finish of choice is dipped and buffed lacquer. After playing with the plexi finish over the last few weeks I decided to use my dip technique with the plexi mixture. Pretty [8D] idea I thought. BIG mistake!!!!!! The stuff dries so quickly it traps air bubbles like crazy! [:0][B)] I was hoping it would just flow down and dry fast. NOT! It would make for a smooth finish if it weren't for all the air bubbles. Oh, and for those thinking, "Why don't you just evacuate it real quick?", that won't work because evacuating the mixture causes it to boil. Ever see boiling water? What do you see? BUBBLES, so that would just add to the problem.;) So now I need to strip the finish off and do it right. Oh well, live and learn.

Try it if you wish, but be forewarned.:D

babyblues is trying it right now also

he had a slight issue with bubbling, but the biggest problem was sagging due to it drying so quickly.

he's continueing to experiment....trying a thinner solution...he said it looks like it could become promising...the thinner solution left fewer and smaller bubbles and sagged much less

I was really posting what I found with my standard plexi/acetone mixture. It is easy enough to use as a finish w/o dipping, but I had to give it a try. The rest just isn't worth the hassle for me, but thanks anyway! ;)

Yeah, I had the same problem. Less so with the thinner solution, but the problem of bubbles still exists. The thinner solution didn't sag as much, but it still trapped bubbles. I would be interested to try adding some of that MIBK. Where would one get that stuff?
