After using my crapsman 12 inch floor model band saw for 15 years, I've decided to put it out to pasture. Today I ordered a Grizzly GO555, now if I can find anyone close that wants a good working band saw..........:wink:

Ed, when your right your right. Folks this is a beautiful band saw that has been well maintained sold by Sears and her name is Margaret O'Houlihan better know as Hot lips in the 1970 movie Mash.

That any better Ed?

Roy, I just bought one of those Craftsman 12 in floor model saws that hasn't had more than a few hours sawing done on it, I had to drive to Memphis to get it but I think it was the best 100.00 I've spent on pen turning junk, the saw is just like new,

Roy -- one can never have too many bandsaws!!! Think of the time saved if you put a 1/8 inch blade on your old friend and us it just for those special detailed jobs.

No sir -- besides keeping an old friend, you have the opportunity to specialize.

Maybe one can have too many table saws, but not band saws!!

Ken, I would love to keep it and do exactly as you say, but being my shop is slightly larger than a VW camper van ..........:frown::frown:

Let me know how that new bandsaw works for you. I'm going to be getting one once our move is complete and I was eyeing that exact model.

TIA

2:30 this afternoon the phone rang and it was the freight company with my new saw, said if I had a pick-up he'll meet me in a parking lot close by said his semi truck was to big to get in my neighborhood. Well of course I jumped into the P/U and met him 5 blocks from the house, lugged it home into the back yard to the shop, moved the old one out and commenced assembly of the new saw. The directions for assembly are well written and it went together easy and you DO need a helper lift the saw and motor onto the stand. I haven't hooked it up to my dust collection system yet I'll have to rearrange some of my piping tomorrow, so far I'm impressed will let you know tomorrow after I tune it and finally use it.

That saw has a great reputation and I'm sure you'll love it. I have had a 12" Craftsman for many years and it has cut a many a board. I use it now as a backup to my Rikon. I'm sure you'll find it a nice new home. Hope you enjoy your new Grizzly.

yes, keep us informed of how the new saw works. I know a couple of people who have Grizzly's and they both said they had to replace the bearings in less than a year.

Typical steering wheel jockey. I don't get these guys and how they survive. I have no problem getting my semi into my house, but when a semi comes, he can't turn the corner. I would have backed my trailer right into your driveway. I guess that's the difference between local and highway drivers.

Since you do not have room for two band saws ( Note that Tommy has a backup), be sure to send your old friend to a good home -- and welcome your new best saw friend to a good life of making large pieces of wood smaller. A good band saw is a blessing exceeded only by the lathes. (you do have several of those, don't you -- cannot have too many lathes....)

Curious, which Rikon did you get?

Keep us in the loop on how you the new Grizzly.

Thanks.

Good Luck with Grizzly

I bought the Grizzly GO55. It had lots of issues right from the box. Wheels were not true, table would not square, blade was junk. and the saw literally "walked" around the shop. After replacing the blade with an Olsen, getting Grizzly to send a new wheel that was not warped and was balanced, replacing the fence with the Rockler system, changing to cool blocks it finally worked ok. I finally found a buyer for it and sent it to a new home. I just bit the bullet and bought the Jet and I am living happily ever after, right out of the box.

I hope you have better luck with Grizzly than I had. Changing the blade to a Timberwolf or Olsen and changing to cool blocks are a must.

Disagree with everything but the blade, and maybe the guides need changing to cool blocks just haven't had it long enough to tell. The blade that comes with it is junk, agreed. Mine the wheels were balanced and after minimum adjusting ran like a top. The fence sure was a lot better than the non existent fence on the craftsman and deltas in the same price range

Sorry stolicky, I missed this. I bought this one. http://www.rikontools.com/productpage_10-345.htm and so far I love it. I bought it on sale from Woodcraft and they had sold all of the in stock machines. They ordered one and gave it to me still in the shipping crate. When I opened it, it was a rusty mess (no fault to Woodcraft). I believe it got damp on the ship. However, Woodcraft hooked me up with a rep from Rikon and they replaced everything I asked about and gave great service. Couldn't have had more cooperation from Woodcraft or Rikon. Only problem I had was getting that monster out of my pickup.

I fully agree with you Roy, I replaced the balde with a timberwolf, and I couldn't be happier with my Girzzly. I got riser blocks and have cut 10 inch material without a burp. Love the saw....
