Well picked up the 1.5HP jet dust collector I ordered from WC last week. It was on sale for $369.99 I think it was. That thing is a heavy sucker. I got most of it put together last night. Going to finish it today when I get home. Once I get some more money together I hope to get me a separator. I will probably use the trash can lid one or something similar.

So happy to finally have this. I hope it will help keep the shop cleaner now. My little shop vac fills up pretty quick from all the cleaning up I do now. LOL :biggrin:

I have one of those and they are awesome, just be careful!!! the propeller stops after few minutes of powering off, I say this after my own experience rushing to the hospital with a hanging fingertip after I tried to unclog the turbine and not realized that it was still spinning

ROFL! That's funny. Yeah my wife thought it was a really good idea actually. I was on the fence about getting one, and she agreed it was time to do it. Gotta love when the wife supports buying more stuff for the shop. :) Heck I had her out there a week ago mixing resin with me lol.

I said to my wife...
'Honey, I think it's time I bought dust collector for my rat cave'

She said;

'Why???? You already have loads of tools collecting dust!!'

I guess I won't be getting one....:frown:

I've got a Dust Collector on my want list and it's just about to the top of the list. Now I just need to save up for one. Anyone have thoughts between the pleated paper filters and the bag versions?

I have a dust collector for sale $300.00 but it looks as though I need to pay $5.00 to post it in classifieds. To be fair.

John, If it were really a classified that needed to be paid for, I'd be deleting this rather than replying. What makes you believe that you need to pay a $5 a for a dust collector ad? Unless you are selling them as a repeat item, there is no reason you can't post it for free in DTG&W: Deals Trades Gifts & Wants - International Association of Penturners

A dust collector was a necessary item for me once I set up my turning area in the basement. For me it also doubles as a storage spot for lots of barely used pieces of sandpaper! :eek::smile::biggrin: Gotta remember to put some wire mesh over it when sanding. :redface:

I went with the Pleated Paper filter (1 micron I believe). Have LOVED it. Sits between my lathe and bandsaw and acts as a very handy shelf for my sandpaper or tape measures.

You might want to search on thein baffle. You can make a very good separator. I would also recommend looking at Wynn filters and convert to a cartridge filter If you have the regular bags. They are not cheap but really increase the flow and keep the really small dust out of the air
