Went to my brothers house Saturday to visit my mom and have an early thanksgiving. While there he started asking me about my pen making and took me out to the garage and showed me this Unimat SL1000 lathe our uncle had given him before he passed away.

He then asked me if I wanted it. Well, our mother didn't raise no fools so I said yes. He said all I have to do is make him another pen in exchange. He didn't specify what kind, so I think I'll give him a slimline.:biggrin::wink:

Actually, I'm going to show him my entire collection and let him pick. Even if he takes a top of the line pen I still come out ahead. From what I've been able to find out so far online the lathe appears to be mostly intact. The most critical part missing are the belts and I've found them online for $12. Yes, I know this is another black hole, but I was getting sucked into it anyway. Now all I have to do is learn how to use it.

Those are a lot of fun!
I have one with the milling attachment and lots of other goodies.
A bit underpowered but works great if you just go slowly.

Hope you have lots of fun with it!!

Unimat

You can get both POLYURETHANE belts for the unimat as well as common O-rings. Join the Yahoo group for the Unimat if you have the SL 1000 or DB200
I have turned many slimline pens on an old SL with the power feed and an A2Z quick change toolpost using the smallest indexable tools from Victor Machinery in Brooklyn NY. Acrylic cuts like butter you can get it to come off as one filament at the right speed and depth of cut.
