How do I fill in the pits that you find in Purple Heart, padauk, etc before I put on the friction finish? I use drs. Woodshop pens plus.

Hey Marty...just MHO, but in a lot of cases, the grain is a good thing. If you want to fill it in, use a CA or similar finish to fill the grain. My feeling is to stay away from friction polish for high use items...it just wears off...and quickly!

You can fill the voids from open grain woods by running a bit of sandpaper over the wood to build up a bit of sanding dust then dripping some CA onto the blank while you continue to sand. Continue for about 10 to 20 seconds then let it dry. Later sand the blank and you will get back to the wood, but with the grain holes filled with CA and wood dust.
