Hi,
Got this pair finished today. I'm glad I decided to leave the worm holes in the pieces after reading Bill Young's experience with trying to fill them.:frown:
The first pic is Mother and measures 12.25in x 2.5in and the child is 6 x 1in. I could not core a bigger piece out because of the depth of the original blank, 2.5in.
Most of the work was done with my flash (Honey dipper) carbide tool handle.:biggrin:
Finish is Shellawax GLOW.

Seriously, making 2 bowls are of a shallow blank, isn't an easy thing however you managed it nicely so, you are getting pretty good at it, for sure...!

If it can't hold water, it must be art!

Good choice in leaving the worm holes unfilled. It gives it character, for sure. I love the coloring in these - mother nature sure does have a nice way of staining the wood (whether it be from the tree fighting stress or bugs). I like the interior shape of the mother bowl too -- it looks like the inside rim is slightly undercut giving a nice shadow line.

At 12"+ and shallow, this sure would make a nice fruit bowl!

Great save on the coring, Bob! And the pieces are beautiful! FWIW, they just wouldn't have the same appeal if you had filled the worm holes.

Can't sneak much past you guys. Yes it does have a slight undercut so I could hold the piece while finishing the bottom.:biggrin:

I didn't bother to read any post in this thread. As soon as I looked at the pic my thought was, "beautiful". I like the flam in that maple, and the shape of that bowl just seems to show it off quite well.
