Hi everyone!
I have several lots of blanks listed in this post. Priced by lot, but will consider splitting lots if they are not claimed after a period of time. Shipping priced separately depending on buyer's preference. Buy three or more lots and standard shipping is on me for buyers in the US. PayPal F&F is preferred. Don't worry, I am a trusted buyer/seller on this site!
All blanks are at least 3/4" x 6" and are not stabilized unless otherwise noted in the description of each lot. Additional photos or mineral spirits can be applied if requested.
Lot #1: Highly Figured Claro Walnut (including graft section) -$50 $40
These six blanks came from a veneer core log and are solid. A lot going on figure-wise - curl, marble cake swirls, and grafting lines on each one.
Lot #2: Figured, Burly Claro Walnut -$36 $26
These six blanks also come from a veneer core log and exhibit more burly sections and less curl, but plenty of swirly color variation. Price reflects the fact that in the burly sections, there are small voids and some short sections of checking that will all fill easily with black CA or epoxy. The three longer blanks on the right are 6.5" long.
Lot #3: Curly Koa - $40 Claimed
Three extra-long, tightly curled koa blanks. I couldn't bear to cut these down to 6" and thought the pen maker should choose how to make use of them instead. The longest on the left is 11.375", the middle is 9", and the "shortest" is 8.25". All are 3/4" square. Mineral spirits were applied to better exhibit curl figure that is sometimes difficult to capture on camera when dry. Worth noting that left-most blank has a very shallow live edge cut out of one corner that would definitely turn away once rounded. There is also a short, shallow soft section of grain in the middle of the same blank that I'm confident would turn away as well, but wanted to be as transparent as possible (pictured below).
Lot #4: Curly Koa Sap Wood -$40 $30
Seven curly, blonde sap wood blanks of koa. These koa come from a log with more prominent grain and are pretty visually interesting aside from just the chatoyant curl. As noted, these are from the sap wood and as such are lighter in color and density. The longest on the left is 7.5" long, the next two longest are 7". The remaining three propped up on the stand are 6". The small, short guy on the far right is 5.5" long and 0.625" square. All have mineral spirits applied to exhibit curl more clearly for the camera.
Lot #5: Two-Toned Honduran Rosewood -$36 $26
Six heavy, dense, solid blanks with striking contrast of heart and sap wood. Five of the six have almost perfect 50/50 split between heart and sap coloring. The left-most starts at 50/50 at the top but drifts to more sap wood toward the bottom as pictured.
Lot #6: Honduran Rosewood -$18 $12
OK, these aren't very figured, but they are perfectly solid examples of Honduran Rosewood. Left two blanks are 0.625" square. Remaining four are 0.75" square. All are 6.5" long.
Lot #7: Box O' B-Grade Amboyna - $40 Claimed
This is 4 pounds of "character" grade amboyna burl pen blanks. The box they are pictured in below is 6" x 6" x 12" when closed. They are a mix of heart and sap wood burl. All have burl or dense figure. Price reflects the fact that nearly all blanks include some kind of inclusions/voids/blemish along their length that will need to be CA/epoxy filled or worked around. Also, many blanks have some white paint that comes from a well-meaning exporter that I suppose thought it would help with reducing the chance of checking or getting flagged by customs (when they were larger blocks). Not exactly sure, but I recognize it can be annoying, so I factor that into the price reduction as well. Most blanks are 0.75" square and length varies, but most are 5-6" long. Some shorties are included as well.
That's all for now. Please let me know if you have any questions or need more details!
